Final Shots

Here are the shots I have done.
Some minor color correction tweaks.
Still can't match up with Jian Hunt's shot though even through lots of trial and error.
Maybe I can think up something by Friday so that I can finally match the shot in continuity.

Major Problems faced
  • Footages were shot very far apart. Lighting issues and shadows were a huge concern.
  • Had some trouble with the color correction, after color correction, particles and glows were changed to a constant blue. Very little contrast.
  • As a result of that, had to make the shot blurry by adding in multiple layers of original passes without color correction and reducing the opacity to give it back some color.

30-May-2012

Shot 30.

What I did for this shot.Roto Work + Glow.
Used Wani's crystal ball for this shot.
Color Corrected Plate.

29 May 2012 - Version Two

Changelog

  • Lowered hand glow's opacity. Felt it was too much.
  • Reduced opacity of tribal tattoos, was not sticking properly on Danial's skin.

Shot 26 - Today's version.

I tried to do a fading of the particles with some roto work this morning but it didn't look very realistic so i just stuck with the basic fade.

After consulting with our supervisor, I made the following changes to the shot.

Changelog
  • Added glow to more frames during the transfer of energy from Danial to Arthur.
  • Overlay particles over color corrected shot to give it more color.
  • Added more glow to Danial's hands.

28 May: Version 2

Changelog
Added overlay of shirt over fire particles. (To make them seem like they are under the shirt).
Added bright glow when energy is being transferred from Danial to his wrist to push Arthur.

Changed various opacity/color tweaks.

Week 12: Monday

Almost final version.
This is the version which I did over the weekend.
Used rotopaint to glow the actors. Cleaned up roto work and keying.

It's a nightmare rendering the passes together. Lots of frame rate issues and color correction issues. Hopefully can fix the problem next.

Week 11

Week 11

Changes

  • Color changed to a more bluish-tint.
  • Added Jian Hunt's arm particles.
  • Trashed the color grading as felt it had too much lost detail.
  • Cleaned up more roto/key work.

I also worked on shot 31. The orb had to be glowed and i followed Wani's orb glowing effect. I did roto work and tracking for the shot.

Here is the shot graded with some glow.

More detailed breakdown on how the effect was accomplished.

  • Had three different plates for the actors. Amir and Danial and Arthur. Later Amir and Danial were merged together as a single plate.
  • Applied bulge effect to Arthur, so that the effect would be seen behind Danial and Amir.

Things to work on for tomorrow:
  • Painting lights on s26 and 31.
  • More roto work for the shots.
  • Misc.

Week 10

Week 10

This week was rather uneventful as I was sick for the first 2 days of the week. As such, I couldn't get much done. I had a lot of trouble with painting weights for the digital double but with lots of trial and error, I finally got a somewhat working rig.

I decided not to waste anymore time on the rig and start to integrate the model into the shot.

Camera matchmove
Posed Digital Double

Added 2 Directional Lights

Rendered with IBL+Lights

Rough Animation

I based my animation off a scene in the movie "Push"
I also will try to simulate the distortion effect
along with trying to make the particles.

After the renders, I decided to clean up the keying and roto work in nuke to see how the shot would look.
Here is what I have so far.

Version 1

Things that I will be working on next the the shot:
  • Particles
  • Re-light up the model to better match the real actor
  • Play around with distortion effects
  • Make the animation more realistic
That's all for week 10.

Week 9
This week, we have finally shot the footage I needed for my shot. Old footage could not be used as such we had to re-shoot the scene.

I have also sculpted a somewhat finished version of the actor to use for the shot. It has been skinned with a basic skeleton. Here is the finished model. Below are before and after pictures.

"Damn last warning sia!" - Arthur Liew (2012)

Here is the footage keyed and added together.

The idea of the shot is to replace Arthur with the digital double as Daniel pushes him. We can then exaggerate the effect of the push with the model.

I haven't begun posing the model to replace Arthur yet as I have some problems with the paint weights in Maya. I'll probably troubleshoot the issue tomorrow and can then begin the shot.

What I have done though is test the lighting of the model in the scene and played around with distortion and particles in after effects.

Image Based Lighting with a few lights.
